What types of shaving are there?

If you want to shave your beard, you can either do it with a wet shave or a dry shave. Which one you choose depends on your personal preferences. But what are the differences between wet and dry shaving?

  • Wet shave: In wet shaving, the hair is removed with water in combination with shaving soap, shaving foam, shaving cream or shaving gel. To remove the hair, you can use a razor, a razor plane or a system razor with interchangeable razor blades.
  • Dry shaving: An electric razor is used to shave the dry face, which is a quick solution because no preparation is necessary. Dry shaving is therefore a very quick and time-saving option. Afterwards, the face is washed with warm water and an aftershave product is also good for the skin.

What do you need for a perfect wet shave?

For a classic wet shave, you need the appropriate shaving tools. If you want, you can start with a pre-shave product that prepares the skin for shaving, protects it and forms a film that makes shaving easier afterwards. Of course, you also need a shaving foam that softens the hair and allows the razor to glide smoothly. If you like it fast, you can use ready-made foam or shaving gel from a can or make your own foam from shaving soap or shaving cream. For this, you also need a shaving brush and a shaving bowl to whip up the foam and apply it to your face. After shaving, an aftershave product such as classic aftershave lotion or aftershave balm cares for and soothes irritated skin and provides pleasant refreshment.

How do you perform a wet shave?

Before you can start removing the beard hair, you first start with the shaving preparation. Taking a few minutes before shaving is essential to prevent skin irritation and razor burn. First, wash your face with warm water or place a cloth with warm water on your face for a few minutes to soften the beard hairs. Then spread the shaving foam on the areas to be shaved and start shaving with a razor or a system razor. If you are really brave, you can also use a razor! After shaving, rinse the face thoroughly with warm water and dry gently with a towel. Afterwards, the irritated skin should be pampered with a suitable aftershave product that soothes, nourishes and refreshes the skin.dambiro

What is the best way to shave the contours?

If you have a beard and only want to shave the contours, you can fall back on a few simple tips. In general, it is recommended to use a beard oil or a transparent shaving gel for shaving the contours, which is applied specifically to the areas to be shaved and offers a better view when shaving.

  • The contour on the cheeks: A full beard or a three-day beard looks particularly well-groomed if the area of the cheeks between the sideburns and the upper lip beard is shaved straight or in a slight curve. The shape you choose also depends on the growth of your beard. If the beard hair grows far below the eyes, it is best to set the contour as high up as possible. If the beard growth is rather sparse on the cheeks, the contour can be placed further down.
  • The contours on the sideburns: With most beard styles, you shave either directly or slightly below the jawbone, as the jawbone is in a way a natural line between the area below the ears and the chin. As a rule, this results in a certain natural symmetry. Incidentally, the more hair you leave down, the more prominent the beard will look.
  • The contours on the neck: Below the jaw bones, shave off the hair in the direction of the Adam's apple. Below the ears, you can round off the angle between the sideburns and the chin line, leaving about two centimetres between the chin and the contours of the beard.

How often should you shave your beard?

How often you should or want to shave your beard depends entirely on your personal preferences. However, there are a few rules of thumb for the respective beard shapes. If you prefer a smooth shave, you should of course use a razor every day. A three-day beard is best shaved every 3 to 7 days, while a full beard only needs to be trimmed and shaped occasionally, which can be done every three to four weeks. If you have a moustache, the rest of your face also needs a regular shave, which can be done every one to two days, depending on the amount of beard growth. To keep the moustache looking neat, it should be trimmed regularly once or twice a month.
